MidEuropa Partners has successfully completed the sale of Profi Rom Food to Ahold Delhaize for EUR 1.3 billion, marking the largest private equity deal in Romania’s history. Profi, a leading grocery retailer in Romania, operates over 1,750 stores and employs more than 28,000 people across the country.

The deal, signed in October 2023 and finalized in January 2025, also represents the largest grocery retail transaction involving private equity in Central and Eastern Europe and the largest of its kind in continental Europe. This historic sale underscores the transformative role of private equity in Romania, with Profi’s evolution into a retail leader under MidEuropa’s stewardship being a standout achievement.

Aleksandar Dragicevic, Principal at MidEuropa, described the transaction as a landmark moment: “Profi’s incredible growth reflects the hard work and strategic vision behind this success. This sale highlights the value we’ve created and its pivotal role in Romania’s retail sector.”

Now part of Ahold Delhaize’s global portfolio, Profi is well-positioned to continue its growth and integration as part of one of the world’s largest food retail groups.
