The 17th edition of the Bucharest International Film Festival (BIFF)will take place between 3 – 12 September in the capital city, focussing on Greek cinema

CHARTA Foundation, in collaboration with the Cultural Association “Grigore Vasiliu Birlic”, organises under the High Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania, from 3 – 12 September 2021, the 17th edition of the Bucharest International Film Festival, the first major feature film competition organised in the capital city.

Thus, in 2021 as well, the festival carries forward its tradition of showing the cinephile audience, for the first time in Romania, some of the most awaited recent films around the world, with the attendance of high-profile guests.

The Hellenic-Romanian Bilateral Chamber of Commerce will be, for the second consecutive year, a strategic partner of this Festival, which will focus on Greek cinema.

Designed as a Festival opened to arthouse cinema, that encourages new cinematic trends, discovers talents and promotes young filmmakers, the 17th edition will include the following sections:

“100 years since the birth of King Michael I of Romania”, a section organised with the support of the Royal Family

Special Programme Spain, to mark the anniversary of 140 years of Diplomatic Relations between Romania and Spain

The Festival’s program, designed by Mirona Radu, the new Festival Programme Manager, a film industry professional with 10 years of experience in curating, production, distribution, and international festivals, will include a series of masterclasses, in addition to film screenings and discussions with special guests.

The 16 previous editions of the Festival have confirmed the need for the existence of such an event, and its national and international recognition through the presence of the audience and that of well-known guests: Nikita Mihalkov, Andrei Konchalovsky, Amos Gitai, Danis Tanovic, Rutger Hauer, Jerzy Skolimovsky, Jan Harlan, Radu Mihaileanu, Franco Nero, Vanessa Redgrave.

For the 17th edition, the Festival will organise indoor and outdoor screenings, complying with all health protection measures and rules required by the current epidemiological context.
