Cities of Tomorrow 2026: European solutions for the smart transformation of Romanian cities

International and local experts will gather in Bucharest to discuss concrete models for sustainable urban development, based on best practices from major European cities.

The Cities of Tomorrow 2026 conference, organized by AHK România, will take place on April 28–29 and bring together experts in architecture and urban planning from Romania and European cities such as Berlin, Munich, and Warsaw. The central theme focuses on transforming cities through innovative, sustainable solutions tailored to the real needs of residents.

Among the international speakers are Monika Konrad, Arne Lorz, and Jochen Lang, who will present concrete examples of urban regeneration, digitalization, and integration of the green transition into public policies.

The event includes two panels dedicated to transforming cities into green urban ecosystems, with a focus on neighborhood regeneration and the creation of long-term economic and social value. In parallel, between April 21 and 23, seven online roundtables are being held, addressing topics such as circular economy, urban mobility, energy efficiency, digitalization of administration, and urban governance.

Key topics include the revitalization of the Dâmbovița River riverbanks, development of green-blue corridors, stormwater management, metropolitan rail systems, and the role of public-private partnerships in modernizing urban infrastructure. Solutions for waste reuse, community education, and improving urban connectivity are also discussed.

The ideas generated during the conference may form the basis for future projects aimed at transforming Romanian cities into economic growth hubs and improving the quality of life.

Cities of Tomorrow is the flagship annual event of AHK România for urban and regional development, facilitating dialogue between public administration, investors, and professionals in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, real estate, and digitalization.
