CEC Bank strengthens its position on the external remittances market through the expansion of its international transfer services

CEC Bank is expanding its money transfer services by introducing the possibility to send funds from Romania to other countries directly through its branch network, in partnership with the Transfer Rapid platform. The initiative marks an expansion of the bank’s presence in the international remittances segment, a market driven both by labor mobility and the growing communities of foreign workers in Romania.

Until now, the institution’s offer included domestic transfers and the reception of money from abroad. The new service complements the existing infrastructure and allows transfers to a wider range of international destinations, including Asian countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Philippines.

The expansion reflects changes in the structure of the local labor market. Romania is no longer only a source of outbound remittances through the Romanian diaspora, but also a destination for foreign workers transferring income to their families in their home countries. This segment has become increasingly relevant for banks and operators specialized in fast transfers.

From an operational perspective, CEC Bank relies on the accessibility of its territorial network and on processing speed through the Transfer Rapid platform. The institution states that the technological infrastructure enables rapid transfers and simplifies the in-branch experience, including through informational materials and QR codes dedicated to foreign customers.

For the local banking system, competition in the international transfer segment is intensifying amid pressure from both fintech companies and global operators specialized in low-cost cross-border payments with short processing times.
