Cristina Guțu becomes first Romanian vice president of ACCA globally

Cristina Guțu, Director at KPMG Romania and Moldova, has been appointed Vice President of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), becoming the first person from continental Europe to hold a global executive position in the organization’s history. ACCA represents over 257,000 members and 530,000 future members across 180 countries.

In her new capacity, Guțu will work alongside President Melanie Proffitt and Deputy President Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan, helping to shape the global direction of ACCA. Her appointment marks a significant milestone for both the organization and Romania’s professional community.

A member of the ACCA Council since 2018, Guțu has actively contributed to the organization’s strategy and currently leads the ACCA Global Forum for Ethics. Between 2010 and 2016, she served three consecutive terms as a member of ACCA’s International Assembly and has long been an advocate for professional ethics and education in Romania and the CEE region.

At KPMG, Guțu leads the firm’s learning and development agenda, focusing on professional education and talent growth. With a career spanning over 15 years in training, auditing, and consulting, she brings an international perspective to professional development initiatives.

“I welcome the opportunity to be the first vice president from continental Europe in ACCA’s history. My contribution will be a unique combination of executive experience in a Big Four environment, close ties with academia, and a deep commitment to education and professional growth. This blend provides a strategic perspective that aligns with our ambitious goals for redefining accountancy,” stated Cristina Guțu.

Guțu’s appointment enhances Romania’s representation in the international accounting landscape, underlining the country’s growing influence in shaping the ethical and professional standards of the global finance community.
