Romanian game development industry exceeds EUR 343 million in 2024

In 2024, Romania’s video game development industry recorded a turnover of EUR 343.16 million, marking an 8% increase compared to 2023, according to a report by RGDA and Banca Transilvania. This growth reflects the sector’s stability and resilience in a complex global environment.

Romania is home to 206 active studios, with most based in Bucharest (98), followed by Cluj (32), Iași (12), Ilfov (8), Timiș (7), and Brașov (4). Another 45 studios operate across the rest of the country.

The industry employed approximately 6,100 professionals in 2024. Despite a slight decrease in workforce size, productivity per employee surpassed EUR 56,000. The segment of original IP development showed the strongest growth, now representing 12% of total revenues — triple the figure from ten years ago.

“The Romanian game development industry returned to growth in 2024, surpassing EUR 343 million. This is a strong signal of stability and maturity, showing that the local ecosystem can navigate global challenges and generate value,” said Alexandru Chica, President of RGDA.

The share of multinational companies decreased to 70% of revenues in 2024, compared to 89% in 2015. Meanwhile, local service studios grew to 18%, and original game creators increased their market presence. Leading companies by revenue include Electronic Arts Romania, Ubisoft Romania, Amber Studio, Green Horse Games, Gameloft Romania, Playtika, Super Hippo Games/Nutaku, Quantic Lab, eRepublik, AMC Romania, Fortis Games, Whyttest, and Funcom.

Top titles developed or co-developed in Romania between 2024 and 2025 include: ASKA, Breachway, Zoria: Age of Shattering, Door Kickers 2: Task Force North, Cubic Odyssey, EA FC 26, Dune: Awakening, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Monument Valley 3, and WSOP.
