Bosch Invested 72 Million Euros in Romania in 2023
Bosch, a global leader in technology and services, reported a solid financial performance in Romania for the fiscal year 2023, despite market uncertainties. The company recorded consolidated sales of 25 billion lei (5.162 billion euros) in Romania, maintaining levels similar to the previous year. Total net sales, including those from non-consolidated companies and internal deliveries to affiliated companies, increased by 12% year-on-year to 118 billion lei (24 billion euros).
In 2023, Bosch invested approximately 356 million lei (72 million euros) in Romania. This investment was primarily allocated to the development of its manufacturing facilities in the Mobility sector in Cluj and Blaj, as well as research and development at the Bosch Engineering Center in Cluj.
The Bosch plant in Jucu, Cluj County, has been producing high-quality electronic control units since 2013, enhancing road safety and driving comfort. Last year, the Jucu plant made significant strides in energy efficiency and sustainability. Solar panels at the facility generated 5,444 MWh of green energy, a 46% increase from the previous year, covering about 10% of the plant’s total electricity demand. Together with a heat pump installed in 2021, the plant reduced its local gas consumption by over 60%, resulting in annual energy savings of 897 MWh.
Similarly, Bosch’s production unit in Blaj expanded its capacity in the Industrial Technology sector by enhancing its production equipment for linear systems. The Blaj plant, known for its exceptional quality in automotive components and industrial technology, exceeded its internal energy reduction targets in 2023. Initiatives such as lighting automation, compressed air pressure optimization, and the use of thermal energy from compressors led to energy savings of 1,854 MWh.
The Bosch Engineering Center in Cluj, established in 2013, continues to shape the future of mobility with cutting-edge solutions for automated driving, electric vehicles, and connected mobility. In April 2024, Bosch inaugurated a second office building in Cluj-Napoca, representing a 21 million euro investment, bringing the total investment in the two buildings to approximately 50 million euros. This expansion underscores Bosch’s commitment to Romania and the strategic importance of the Cluj Engineering Center within its global engineering network.
Bosch remains dedicated to the Romanian market, celebrating 30 years of continuous and successful presence in the country. Despite anticipating a challenging year in 2024 due to market conditions, Bosch aims to consolidate its strategic position and continue contributing to Romania’s development through innovative technologies and sustainable practices.
Bosch has approximately 10,520 employees in Romania across six entities and generated consolidated sales of 5.162 billion euros in 2023.
