Saint-Gobain Installs 1,725 Solar Panels at Turda Factory, Cutting CO2 Emissions by 238 Tons Annually

Saint-Gobain Romania has taken a significant step in its sustainability strategy by completing the installation of a photovoltaic power plant at its Saint-Gobain Rigips factory in Turda. This solar project, funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and Saint-Gobain’s internal Carbon Fund, is designed to power the factory’s production line with clean energy, reducing its reliance on external electricity sources.

The solar power plant consists of 1,725 Tier 1 photovoltaic panels installed over a surface area of nearly 7,000 square meters. Completed in just eight weeks, this project will help Saint-Gobain reduce CO2 emissions by 238 tons annually, contributing to the company’s broader goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Ovidiu Păscuțiu, CEO of Saint-Gobain Romania, stated: “This project is an important step for Saint-Gobain towards adopting renewable energies and strengthening our environmental commitment. It showcases how we are investing in the optimization of our production processes to reduce internal energy consumption while aligning with our global ambition of net-zero emissions by 2050.”

This solar installation follows other ongoing projects with ENGIE Romania and OMV Petrom, further reinforcing Saint-Gobain’s dedication to decarbonizing the construction industry. The company’s investments align with its mission, “Making the World a Better Home,” and its strategic plan, “Grow & Impact.”

Globally, Saint-Gobain achieved sales of €47.9 billion in 2023 and employs 160,000 people across 76 countries. In Romania, the group operates 14 industrial sites, employing around 2,000 people.
