Gebrüder Weiss Celebrates 30 Years in Romania with €94 Million Revenue in 2023

International logistics and transport company Gebrüder Weiss is celebrating 30 years of operations in Romania, marking a significant milestone since its establishment as a small freight forwarding agency in 1994. Over three decades, the company has grown to become a leading provider of comprehensive logistics services in the country, with investments totaling €90 million in local infrastructure.

Since its inception, Gebrüder Weiss has expanded to manage 13 locations across Romania, including nine major logistics hubs in key cities such as Bucharest, Arad, Sibiu, Cluj, Bacău, Brașov, Constanța, and Craiova. In 2023 alone, approximately 700 employees handled over 11 million shipments, generating €94 million in revenue. The company’s extensive service offerings include land, air, and sea transport, intermodal solutions, customs clearance, and warehousing logistics, with specialized solutions for the automotive and high-tech industries.

General Manager Viorel Leca, who has been leading Gebrüder Weiss Romania since 2009, attributes the company’s dynamic growth to a consistent business strategy focused on expanding locations, investing in technology, and continuous employee training. Leca states, “Our goal has always been to provide the best logistics solutions for our clients’ success, which continues to motivate us.”

The company has also made significant strides in sustainability, operating seven electric vehicles in cities like Cluj, Sibiu, Brașov, Craiova, Constanța, and Iași. Between October and December 2023, these vehicles completed around 2,100 deliveries, transporting approximately 311,000 kg of goods and reducing CO2 emissions by 14 tons. Gebrüder Weiss aims to increase the share of deliveries using electric vehicles to 10% in 2024, translating to over 8,000 transports.

In addition to transport, the company has focused on the sustainable operation of its logistics warehouses, incorporating energy-efficient solutions like LED lighting, heat pumps, and photovoltaic systems. This approach is exemplified by the new 17,000 square meter logistics terminal near Bucharest in Popești-Leordeni, set to open in fall 2024. This facility will enhance the company’s capacity for intelligent logistics solutions and improve distribution routes in Bucharest and connectivity with the Constanța seaport.

Looking forward, Gebrüder Weiss aims to further enhance efficiency and sustainability, diversify its portfolio, and attract new clients with high-quality services. The company’s commitment to digitalization remains crucial, improving operational efficiency and positioning it at the forefront of the industry’s digital transformation.
