AmCham Romania Releases Strategic Business Priorities for 2024-2028
The American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania) has released its “Priorities for Romania 2024-2028,” outlining key business recommendations to drive sustainable economic growth over the next four years. The report highlights critical areas for investment and reform, positioning Romania to enhance its competitiveness, attract more foreign investment, and modernize key sectors.
AmCham emphasizes the importance of seizing the current opportunity to capitalize on significant European funding and advancing key reforms. The strategic document identifies several business-oriented goals, focusing on economic convergence, digital transformation, and infrastructure development, all aimed at boosting Romania’s attractiveness for foreign direct investment (FDI).
According to Cristian Sporiș, President of AmCham Romania, the 2024-2028 period is pivotal for Romania’s economic trajectory: “Our members are concerned about the future and the long-term evolution of the economy. This report sets out clear actions for Romania to achieve its full potential as a regional leader and increase its global economic relevance.”
Key Business Priorities Highlighted:
Investment in Infrastructure: Romania must accelerate the completion of delayed transport projects to boost economic mobility and competitiveness. A coordinated multi-annual budget plan for infrastructure development is essential to ensure the successful execution of these projects.
Encouraging High-Value Investments: To establish Romania as a regional production hub, AmCham advocates for policies that prioritize investments exceeding €100 million. This approach aims to enhance Romania’s position within the EU and globally, attracting sectors that promote innovation and high-added-value production.
Digital Economy and Innovation: With €6 billion available through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Romania needs to advance the digitalization of public services, 5G infrastructure, and cloud systems. AmCham stresses the importance of ensuring these initiatives are executed efficiently to avoid delays and capitalize on the full potential of technology-driven economic growth.
Energy Sector Development: Accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources is a key focus, with AmCham advocating for both expanding renewable energy infrastructure and fostering innovation in green energy technologies. The report highlights the necessity of setting clear timelines and measurable goals to ensure the effective implementation of energy policies.
The report further details strategic directions across ten key sectors, including education, healthcare, taxation, and labor markets, all of which require synergistic progress to drive sustainable growth.
AmCham Romania will continue to advocate for these business priorities in its dialogue with both local and international stakeholders, ensuring that Romania remains a key destination for investments and a competitive player in the European economy.
