Grampet Group‘s keyword is now Dornești

Gruia Stoica, President and Founder of the Grampet Group

Professional language refers to the interface between different modes of transportation (intermodal) as a transfer terminal. There are numerous advantages of the intermodal transport, such as the increase in the number of transports, thus facilitating rapid and timely delivery of goods, ultimately leading to cost reductions, among others. A new transfer terminal has been recently established in Dornești (Suceava County), close to Romania’s border to Ukraine, for road-rail transport of agricultural products. A Romanian investment exceeding 10 million euros. “Following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the railway operators within the Grampet Group played a significant role in smoothing traffic by reactivating the main corridors on the North-South axis, ensuring the transport of over 15 million tonnes of goods to Ukraine. (…) Dornești will thus enable the transport of 240,000 tonnes of grain per month,” according to a press release of Grampet SA established in 1999, headquartered in Bucharest, presented by the news agency AGERPRES on 04.04.2024. “It is a remarkable achievement for Grampet but also for Romania, and we would like to thank our Ukrainian partners and everyone involved in the completion of the project,” said Gruia Stoica, President and Founder of the Grampet Group, described as an “energetic, ambitious, confident, and proud man” by Vienna correspondent Andreas Mihm in July 2022 in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

The Dornești terminal is designed for permanent operation. Equipped with a maximum capacity of 3 million tonnes, a wagon loading station (128 meters long), and an unloading station (120 meters long) enabling simultaneous loading/unloading of eight wagons, Dornești becomes the keyword for the desired modernisation of the company. The new facilities resemble those of terminals in seaports and inland ports, enabling the transport of products without quality loss and with maximum capacity, i.e., 500 tonnes per hour, as can be gleaned from the press communiqué.

Today, Grampet is the market leader in Central and Southeastern Europe, involved in rail freight transport, construction, repair and modernisation of railway vehicles, manufacturing of spare parts, leasing of railway vehicles, cargo handling, logistics services, and innovative IT solutions for railway operators, among others.
