Energy Globe Award 2022 Romania
Be it in the field of water, solar and wind energy or in relatively new sectors such as e-mobility or “solar cooling” – sustainable energy from renewable sources has been of enormous importance in Austria over the past years, even decades. Austrian companies have built up great know-how in these sectors and are often market leaders in their segment.
Austria has fully committed to the objectives of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change for Sustainable Development and aims to produce 100% of its electrical power from renewable energy resources according to its government-approved plan mission #2030.
With all its expertise accumulated, it comes as no surprise, that Austria is also home to the Energy Globe Award, the most important environmental award worldwide:
Every year, around 2,000 to 3,000 projects from more than 180 participating countries are submitted, ranging from small and simple initiatives to large-scale high-end ones.
The national winners of the Energy Globe Award are published in cooperation with UNIDO at www.energyglobe.info. The national winners have one thing in common: all of them have understood that the environment is not protected by words but by action! Each one of us can contribute!
The Energy Globe Award Romania 2022 goes to Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics Center (ELI-NP)
On November 22nd, Gerd Bommer, Head of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Romania handed over the Energy Globe Award 2022 to Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics Center (ELI-NP) for their ELI-NP Infrastructure-in-use geothermal plant project.
After the handing over and a very interesting tour of the facilities with ELI-NPs specialists, all participants enjoyed an evening of networking together with Austrian companies in the field of the renewable energy market, the ingenious staff of ELI-NP, as well as Romanian companies and guests.
Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics Center (ELI-NP) is currently the most advanced research infrastructure in the world in the field of photonuclear physics.
The ELI-NP buildings are engineered and equipped according to the latest technologies, to the highest standards to meet the process and environmental requirements. The shallow geothermal system is installed on a plot of 27.000 sqm, has a length of 135 km, and 1080 drills deep of 120 m each. The total installed thermal capacity is higher than 6.2 MW. The shallow geothermal system provides the buildings with all the energy necessary for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, hot water, and technological cooling water. The system doesn’t use fossil fuels as an energy source, the main energy source for both heating and cooling (including technological cooling) is geothermal energy, powering the equipment with electricity. Thus, the shallow geothermal HVAC system installed at ELI-NP is environment friendly with low CO2 emissions, being as well one of the key factors leading to low energy consumption.
National Award Ceremonies are organized by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA.
Every single action counts! Submit your sustainable project to the Energy Globe Award 2023 – submission is already open! Details and the application form are available for download at

From November 22 to 24, 2022, ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Romania also organized a business delegation in the field of “Energy Transition in Romania”. Representants of several Austrian companies with activities in the oil & gas sector, renewable energy, smart grid, and related products and services informed themselves about the current market situation, met potential partners, and discussed future project plans.
Plenty of interesting insights into the sector and its top players from Austria can be found in the latest edition of the FRESH VIEW GreenTech magazine, which we gladly send you upon request.
