PENNY invests €35 million in new logistics center in Mihăilești
PENNY Romania has officially opened its new logistics center in Mihăilești, Giurgiu County, following an investment of €35 million. Covering 22,000 square meters and employing around 200 people, the new facility marks a key milestone in the retailer’s national expansion. It is expected to serve 50 stores by the end of 2025 and 100 stores by 2027.
The Mihăilești center is the first in PENNY’s network to operate entirely without gas heating, relying instead on heat recovery systems and heat pumps. This project reflects PENNY’s strategic focus on sustainable infrastructure and operational efficiency.
“The new logistics center in Mihăilești represents a strategic step in the development of PENNY Romania. Expanding and modernizing our logistics network is essential to support growth and respond more efficiently to customer needs,” said Daniel Gross, CEO of PENNY Romania.
The facility includes areas for receiving, storage, and shipping, handling the entire range of products—from frozen goods and fresh meat to fruit and vegetables. Its technical features include a gas-free heating system based on recovered industrial refrigeration heat, photovoltaic panels with 800 kWp installed power, two double electric vehicle charging stations (88 kW total), an adaptive LED lighting system, and an advanced Building Management System (BMS).
Developed in collaboration with Oopy Arhitectura SRL, Eckert & Partner Beratende Ingenieure mbB, CON A Operations SRL, and Horeco Impex SRL, the new logistics hub complements PENNY’s existing centers in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Turda, Bacău, and Filiași.
