OMV Petrom and România Eficientă Achieve Milestone with €1.3 Million Energy Renovation Project
OMV Petrom, in partnership with Energy Policy Group (EPG), has finalized a €1.3 million energy efficiency renovation of the workshop building at the Technological High School in Vernești, Buzău County. This initiative is part of the fifth phase of the national program, România Eficientă, which aims to modernize four educational facilities to nearly zero-energy building (nZEB) standards with total funding of €7.6 million provided by OMV Petrom.
The workshop building, serving 140 students and 20 teachers, underwent extensive upgrades, including advanced insulation, triple-glazed energy-efficient windows, and a modern heating and ventilation system. The renovations have reduced the building’s annual energy consumption by over 60%, with part of its energy now sourced from renewable photovoltaic panels. OMV Petrom CEO Christina Verchere said, “Seeing the fourth school completed under România Eficientă is a testament to the power of sustainable energy solutions. Together, we are contributing to a lower-carbon future.”
This project is the fourth major school renovation under the program, following similar successes in Ploiești, Băicoi, and Constanța. It underscores OMV Petrom’s commitment to investing in sustainability, with the company having allocated €160 million to community projects since 2007.
