
How important is it to have a seat at the right table?
We talked with two representatives of the top management from CEO Clubs and Executive Clubs Romania and here is some of the wisdom which they shared with us:
Virgil Stănescu, Executive Director CEO Clubs Romania / The Executive Club

Virgil Stănescu is currently the Executive Director of CEO Clubs Romania and President of Sports HUB. He has been ten years the captain of the Romanian National team and for five years he has been named the Best Romanian Basketball Player.
Virgil played basketball at the highest level in Europe with an impressive career, with appearances in Euroleague, Euro Cup, and EuroChallenge. After his sports career, he remained in basketball taking the role of president of Steaua CSM EximBank team, and was also elected as Vice-President of the Romanian Basketball Federation.
He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama, where he has been recently inducted into the USA’s Hall of Fame. Virgil holds a masters’ degree in Economical European Integration from the University of Arts and Sciences “Gheorghe Cristea”, a masters’ degree in Leadership and Management from Northumbria University (UK), and a coaching degree from the National Coaching School “ANS”.
“I discovered CEO Clubs when I was invited as a key-note speaker to one of its events. I found here a community of successful people, leaders in their companies that understood the value of togetherness. I started right away to appreciate this culture of collective wisdom and I decided to join the Club. I had been a member for five years before I jumped the fence and took the Executive Director position. These five years were an unformal education for me. A shortcut to people’s experience. Not any people, but the right people for this.
CEO Clubs is the place where we like to say that we redefine importance. Some might say that it sounds big, but here you exchange ideas, you exchange challenges that are specific to a leader’s context, challenges that not many understand outside of this position. Here #weunderstandleaders is not just a tag line, but something that we work on continuously, so we bring value to our Members. For some it is “me time”, for others it is a place where they meet friends, others share passions, like the love for art, sport, motorcycles, or sailing. It is that place where you smile a lot.
Within these ten years of existence, we invited the right people in. Women and men that don’t think that they know it all. They don’t want to come here to prove something, because all of them already did, but those that want to learn, to contribute also to other’s knowledge, those that want to take value but also bring value to others, leaders.
People asked me before what is the profile of our Member. He or she is that leader that resonates with our culture. That person that «wears» their success every day, knowing that is an infinite game. That curiosity is a key ingredient. We always open our door to the people who speak through their journeys but still build their stories”.

Gabriela Gheorghe, Director of Executive Club Romania

Gabriela Gheorghe is currently the Director of Executive Club Romania. With 20 years of experience in management, her professional background includes various executive positions in top IT Distribution companies. From 2011 to 2019 she was CEO of ELKO Romania.
Gabriela is a Business Coach and she is a strong believer in people’s ability of self-growth.
Her vision is to help managers on their path to authentic leaders, so that all people feel valued and inspired to achieve their business and personal goals.
As an Executive Club Director, she aims to bring a valuable contribution to community development while having the opportunity to further fulfill her mission.
“Executive Club is a Leadership Organization dedicated to creating a nurturing environment for top management executives and early entrepreneurs to enable their growth and development through shared learning experiences, contribution, fun, and business opportunities.
Basically, what we do is to bring great leaders together to the most exclusive table in town. The community consists of top executives leading various departments and industries, open to learn and develop, willing to share their knowledge, and build long-lasting relationships.
People think that the important people are the ones that work in very big organizations.
For us, an important leader means the right character, not the budget they manage. Even though they are successful people, Executive Club Members are simple and approachable people, open-minded, willing to share their knowledge and experiences but yet into continuous learning themselves.
But first of all, they are extraordinary people. And this is what we mean by redefining importance.
Through the various type of meetings, we facilitate a quality environment where our members can share their experiences and challenges with peers and also act as trusted advisors to one another. This enables members to approach business issues from a variety of perspectives
Our brand promise is «We understand leaders».
As top executives, our Members have to face pressure from many stakeholders: upper management, team members, peers, last but not least their own families. They have to manage various responsibilities at the same time. We know this is not an easy task. So the Club is a safe space where they can be themselves, free of any constraints, without any role to be played.
And it’s our mission to know the specifics of their lives being C-Levels and doing the best we can to get some weight off their shoulders. Either by offering them «me time» to our meetings or by connecting them to other great people or by taking them out of their comfort zones.
