Sol și Suflet: Pioneering Regenerative Agriculture in Romania

The farm “Sol și Suflet” has marked three years of innovation in regenerative agriculture, becoming a self-sustaining model in Romania. The project, developed by the Permaculture Research Institute of Romania, received financial support of 125 million lei from Kaufland Romania.

“Sol și Suflet” farm adheres to the principles of regenerative agriculture, a system that prioritizes soil health and biodiversity. Through practices such as crop rotation, composting, and the use of natural fertilizers, the farm produces high-quality vegetables without compromising the environment.

“We are proud that after three years of hard work and research, we have demonstrated that regenerative agriculture is a viable and scalable model, with benefits for both the environment and local communities. By expanding this model, we aim to create a network of farms that produce the highest quality regenerative organic fruits and vegetables in a sustainable and responsible manner,” said Ionuț Bădică, co-founder of the Permaculture Research Institute.

In addition to vegetable production, the farm also operates as an educational center, offering internship and volunteer programs for new generations of farmers and enthusiasts of regenerative agriculture. The knowledge gained from the research conducted at the farm is available for free in an online educational resource library.

“At Kaufland, we believe in the power of example and partnerships that share our vision of a sustainable future. Sol și Suflet has managed to show that we can still have the traditional vegetables we are nostalgic for without harming the environment. This is just one of the thousands of local producers who can change the food industry’s trajectory if supported,” explained Katharina Scheidereiter, CSR Manager of Kaufland Romania and Moldova.

With an area of six hectares in Dâmbovița County, the farm cultivates around 50 varieties of vegetables throughout the year, delivering fresh products weekly to its 200 current customers, including a subscription service with home delivery. The range includes vegetables such as green beans, cabbage, dill, pumpkin, beets, potatoes, salads, broccoli, cauliflower, and many more.

Through its innovative approach and related research and educational activities, “Sol și Suflet” farm stands out as a potential model to follow, paving the way for more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture in Romania.
