€6 Million Investment in Healthcare Digitalization Training Announced in Timișoara

A €6 million investment from European funds will be directed over the next 12 months towards training medical personnel in the use of new technologies, marking a crucial step in the digital transformation of Romania’s healthcare system. This is the first phase of a broader program valued at tens of millions of euros, designed to enhance the digital competencies of healthcare professionals.

A recent study, involving more than 400 health industry experts, revealed that 87% believe education and managerial experience are key to the rapid implementation of digital technologies in the healthcare sector. Additionally, 89% of respondents pointed to the importance of the national infrastructure for the effective integration of these innovations.

At the event Agenda România 4.0 – The Future of Health: The Convergence Between Medicine and Technology, held in Timișoara, Alexandru Rogobete, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health, announced the program. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to digitalization, having already attracted 12 billion lei for related projects.

“A new program, worth tens of millions of euros, has been approved to develop the IT skills of healthcare workers, allowing them to effectively use the technologies we are preparing through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). In the initial phase, €6 million will be invested over the next 12 months,” Rogobete stated.

In parallel, significant improvements are being made in emergency services. Florin Feticu, head of the 112 Department at the Special Telecommunications Service (STS), announced that by 2027, emergency calls to 112 will support video communication, even without mobile network coverage. The updated emergency system will also include functionalities such as real-time text (RTT) and the transmission of emergency images.

Furthermore, Dragoș-Cristian Vlad, President of the Romanian Digitalization Authority (ADR), confirmed that the first equipment for the government cloud will be delivered in November, using state-of-the-art technology to ensure efficient public services and infrastructure modernization.

These announcements underline the increasing integration of technology into Romania’s healthcare system, as experts continue to push for its digital transformation.
