Action continues its expansion in Romania with a new store in Satu Mare
The Dutch non-food retailer Action is opening a new store in Satu Mare on February 26, its ninth in Romania, strengthening its presence on the local market through a discount format focused on low prices and operational efficiency.
Action’s expansion on the Romanian market continues at a steady pace with the inauguration of a new commercial unit in Satu Mare. The store, located in the Aushopping shopping center, will open to the public on February 26 and marks the network’s ninth point of sale in Romania, following the official launch in Pitești in September 2025.
The new unit covers approximately 876 square meters and operates with a team of 16 employees. Opening hours are daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., serving both consumers in the city and those in nearby areas.
The retailer’s business model is based on a broad range of non-food products at low prices. The assortment includes around 6,000 items across 14 categories – from toys and DIY products to home and gardening items. The company introduces approximately 150 new products weekly, maintaining a dynamic offering and encouraging recurring store traffic. According to the company, around 1,500 products are priced below 5 lei.
The opening reflects Action’s strategy of growth through rapid expansion and operational efficiency, in a context where consumers remain price-sensitive. “Customers have always welcomed us with open arms, and we are pleased that more and more Romanians are enjoying the Action formula,” said Boyko Tchakarov, General Manager of Action Romania.
In addition to expansion, the company promotes its sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives. Its stores use LED lighting, and the network has eliminated gas connections to reduce operational emissions. In its supply chain, the company maintains standards regarding the origin of raw materials and the carbon footprint of its products.
According to company data, all cotton products sold under its private label come from sustainable sources, most certified through the Better Cotton program, while the wood used in its products comes from sustainably managed forests certified by FSC® or PEFC. Furthermore, the cocoa used in its private-label products is Fairtrade certified.
Action’s expansion in Romania reflects the local market’s potential for non-food discount retail formats, in an economic climate where consumers prioritize value and predictability of spending. The new store in Satu Mare strengthens the company’s presence in the north-western region and signals its intention for continued expansion on the Romanian market.
