Lidl România Invests 265 Million RON in Education to Support 35,000 Children from Vulnerable Communities

Lidl România has announced a significant investment in education, contributing 265 million RON to the Teach for Romania program as part of their “Back to School” campaign. This amount, which represents an increase of 115 million RON compared to last year, will enable the expansion of educational initiatives across the country, aiming to provide quality education to children from vulnerable communities.

The donation will support 277 teachers and 400 alumni from Teach for Romania, reaching 32 counties in Romania. These educators will provide crucial support to over 35,000 children, giving them access to equal opportunities for a better future. Notably, Lidl România’s contribution will directly support more than 10% of Teach for Romania’s teacher network in 2025, with 100 of these educators and school managers working specifically in the Moldova region.

This substantial investment comes at a critical time for Romanian education. According to a 2023 World Bank report, students from outside the Bucharest-Ilfov region face a significant learning gap, requiring over two additional years of schooling to catch up. The quality and motivation of teachers are highlighted as key factors in bridging this gap, and Teach for Romania’s efforts focus on providing schools in disadvantaged areas with motivated, well-prepared educators who can act as catalysts for change.

Lidl România’s support will also fund the development of innovative educational resources, including a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program specifically adapted to the needs of students from vulnerable communities. This initiative is designed to not only improve academic performance but also equip students with the skills needed to succeed in an evolving job market.

Additionally, Lidl will become the primary partner of the MENTO platform, which aims to provide professional development resources for at least 2,000 educators, particularly those working in vulnerable school environments.

Through its eight-year partnership with Teach for Romania, Lidl România has contributed over 13 million RON to building an inclusive, high-quality education system. This investment continues to support the organization’s mission to bring quality teachers into public schools and ensure that all children in Romania, regardless of their background, have access to the education they deserve.
