OMV Petrom Acquires 710 MW of Solar Projects in Romania from Jantzen Renewables
OMV Petrom, one of Southeast Europe’s largest integrated energy producers, has finalized the acquisition of several photovoltaic park projects from the Danish company Jantzen Renewables. These projects, located in Teleorman County, Romania, have a planned installed capacity of approximately 710 MW. Once operational, the parks will be among the largest solar projects in Southeast Europe.
The transaction represents a key milestone in OMV Petrom’s strategic commitment to increase its renewable energy capacity, aiming for approximately 2.5 GW of installed green energy by 2030. This acquisition, approved by the Commission for the Examination of Foreign Direct Investments, is part of the company’s broader goal to support Romania’s energy transition and security.
The solar parks are expected to generate over 20,000 GWh of clean energy over a 25-year operational lifespan, with annual production sufficient to meet around 70% of Bucharest’s annual residential electricity consumption. The projects are anticipated to begin feeding electricity into the national grid in the second half of 2026, significantly contributing to Romania’s renewable energy output.
Franck Neel, OMV Petrom’s Executive Board Member responsible for Gas and Energy, commented: “This acquisition is a significant step toward achieving our target of 2.5 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030. It reflects our ongoing efforts to meet the increasing demand for green energy and contribute to Romania’s energy security.”
Christian Jantzen, CEO of Jantzen Renewables, added: “We are proud to play a vital role in promoting Romania’s energy transition. This deal marks an important milestone in our mission to develop clean energy projects in the country.”
OMV Petrom continues to invest heavily in renewable energy, and this latest acquisition underlines its commitment to both environmental sustainability and the broader energy needs of Romania. The integration of these projects will further strengthen the company’s role in Romania’s green energy transition, while delivering a substantial environmental impact by reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.
