Bucharest, May 21, 2024 – Garanti BBVA România has announced a contribution of €48 million to the syndicated loan secured by Ford Otosan România. This funding will support the production of the Ford Puma model and new commercial vehicles Ford Transit Courier and Ford Turneo Courier, including their electric versions.

Garanti BBVA România has prioritized sustainability since 2020, significantly contributing to projects that support inclusive economic and social development and environmental friendliness.

Recently, Garanti BBVA România, alongside its sister bank Garanti BBVA International NV (which separately committed €20 million), participated in the €435 million syndicated transaction for Ford Otosan România. The consortium of banks was led by BRD Société Générale as Coordinating Mandated Lead Arrangers (MLA) and Bookrunners.

This loan marks a strategic step towards the electrification of the automotive industry in Romania and a key project for the local economy. Additionally, the initiative supports the energy transition, and we are proud to join as financial partners,” said Bilge Demirer, Deputy General Manager of Garanti BBVA România.

Garanti BBVA’s growth strategy in Romania is based on integrating ESG principles into business decisions. The bank has financed several green projects, including Upsite and Ivy buildings, electric motor production by Softronic in Craiova, and various educational and health projects. Currently, 10% of Garanti BBVA’s corporate loan portfolio is dedicated to sustainable financing.

Garanti BBVA România operates under the principles of the Spanish financial group Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), a global pioneer in sustainability. BBVA developed sustainable business activities worth over €20 billion in the first quarter of 2024, a 41% increase compared to the same period last year. BBVA is close to its goal of mobilizing €300 billion between 2018 and 2025, with €226 billion already committed. BBVA annually receives the highest EU Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
