HORNBACH Invests €4 Million in Expanding Its Sibiu Store

The construction materials and gardening retailer HORNBACH has completed an investment of approximately €4 million in its store in Sibiu. The project focused on expanding the garden department and improving the building’s energy efficiency. The move reflects growing consumer interest in landscaping and green space design, within a specialized retail segment that has gained visibility in recent years.

The most visible change is the expansion of the garden area, which now reaches approximately 5,000 square meters. The sales area has been increased by 2,115 square meters, including 1,315 square meters outdoors and about 800 square meters indoors. The new configuration allows for a broader product assortment and a reorganization of the shopping flow.

The plant portfolio now includes approximately 3,000 items. At the same time, the store now features a dedicated section for pet products. The assortment has also been expanded with outdoor landscaping solutions, such as aluminum fencing, as well as automated lawn-care equipment, including robotic lawn mowers from brands such as Mammotion, Dreame, MOVA and Ecovacs.

To reduce waiting times during busy periods, the retailer has also added an additional checkout in the outdoor garden department.

The expansion comes amid increasing interest in garden landscaping in the Transylvania region. According to the company, the main customers in this category are owners of single-family homes or residents of peri-urban residential developments, although demand is also supported by people arranging balconies or small urban gardens.

The retailer also notes a growing shift toward automated solutions for green space maintenance, smart irrigation systems, and products designed for long-term use. In this context, the investment in Sibiu is part of the company’s strategy to align stores in the local network to the same level of assortment and services.
