Hagag Europe Development launches Hagag Energy in Romania with an investment plan of over 400 million euro
HAGAG Europe Development is expanding its local operations and entering the Romanian energy sector through the launch of its new division, Hagag Energy, backed by an investment plan exceeding 400 million euro and a target of at least 200 new jobs by the end of 2027. The strategic move is built around the acquisition of BTD Distribuție și Furnizare, a Romanian company specializing in infrastructure works, as well as the distribution and supply of natural gas.
Through this transaction, Hagag Europe Development joins the shareholding structure of an already active energy player and assumes control over all ongoing operations of BTD Distribuție și Furnizare. The takeover covers the existing employees, operational systems, activities derived from awarded tenders, as well as all related rights and obligations. This step marks Hagag’s official debut in Romania’s energy industry, with a direct presence along the distribution and supply chain for natural gas.
The new local division will operate under the Hagag Energy brand and is positioned by the investor as a strategic pillar for consolidating its presence on the Romanian market. The energy business complements the company’s established real estate development activity, where Hagag Europe Development is already regarded as one of the prominent players in the industry.
“In the last eight years, our real estate developments have redefined Bucharest’s urban landscape. Today, we extend our vision beyond buildings and take the first step toward the group’s evolution here in Romania. We are, and will remain, a reliable real estate developer, but we have also set out to become an integrated strategic player in the energy sector, keeping at the core the values that define us – long-term vision, innovation, reliability, quality and a strong commitment to generating a positive social and economic impact,” says Yitzhak Hagag, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Hagag Europe Development.
Hagag Europe Development enters the local energy market with a portfolio of 67 contracts for public service concessions in natural gas distribution, as well as for the design, construction and operation of distribution networks. The company already operates three completed natural gas distribution networks, while another 21 are in the design phase, 23 are under execution and 20 are at various stages of authorization.
Based on this portfolio, the company expects to commission a total of 64 new natural gas distribution networks over the next 24 months. In parallel, through the Hagag Energy division, the group plans to create at least 200 new jobs by the end of 2027 and anticipates an increase of at least 35% in the number of active customers generated by its gas distribution and supply activities.
