Early-Year Salaries: IT Remains on Top, While Crewing & Casino Unexpectedly Climb the Income Rankings

At the beginning of 2026, the IT sector continues to offer the highest salaries in Romania, with an average net monthly income of approximately RON 8,000, according to data from the eJobs platform. The ranking is followed by oil & gas, industrial automation, and construction, while sectors such as beauty services and security remain at the bottom of the wage hierarchy.

After a year marked by salary stagnation across many industries in 2025, early 2026 finds candidates paying closer attention to the total compensation package offered by employers. Labor market analysis indicates a consolidation of income hierarchies, alongside the rapid rise of certain sectors.

The IT sector maintains its dominant position, with a national net average of around RON 8,000 per month, up approximately 15% compared to the previous year. Sustained demand for digital skills and the shortage of specialists continue to support high salary levels.

Oil & gas ranks second, with average salaries of approximately RON 6,800, a sector influenced by energy investments and the constant need for skilled personnel. Industrial automation follows, averaging RON 6,200, reflecting production modernization and the integration of smart technologies.

Construction, audit & consulting, and engineering align around a net monthly average of RON 6,000. These sectors benefit from public and private infrastructure projects as well as ongoing demand for specialized professional services.

A notable development is the rise of the crewing & casino sector, which has reached a similar average salary of approximately RON 6,000. The field is characterized by a high volume of hiring and competitive financial packages designed to attract staff in a context of constant workforce rotation.

Job availability data highlights demand dynamics: approximately 1,700 positions are open in construction, 1,500 in IT, and 1,400 in engineering, while the crewing & casino sector has nearly 1,000 vacancies.

At the opposite end, the lowest salaries are found in fields requiring lower qualifications and involving large hiring volumes. Beauty salons and clinics offer an average net salary of about RON 3,900, while security services average around RON 4,000. Retail and call center/BPO roles average approximately RON 4,200, influenced by the high share of entry-level positions. The food industry (RON 4,500) and tourism (RON 4,400) remain in the same salary range.

Regional disparities persist. Bucharest leads the ranking with an average salary of approximately RON 6,000, followed by Cluj-Napoca (RON 5,500) and Timișoara (RON 5,100). At the other end are counties such as Vaslui County, where the average is around RON 3,800.

Another relevant indicator is the gap between candidate expectations and offered salaries, estimated at around 30% on average. The largest gaps appear in banking and real estate (around 40%), while journalism (20%), sales (25%), and public sector roles (29%) show smaller differences.

Currently, more than 21,000 jobs are available on eJobs.ro, with another approximately 6,500 listed on iajob.ro, dedicated especially to workers and candidates without higher education — an indicator of an active labor market marked by significant differences between sectors and qualification levels.
