IKEA Romania starts construction works for its new store in Dumbrăvița, near Timișoara

IKEA announced, during a hybrid ceremony, the start of construction works for its new store in Romania, in Dumbrăvița, near Timișoara. The Swedish retailer will invest approximately 60 million EUR into the new store, representing IKEA's third significant investment in Romania.

In addition to the jobs that are expected during the construction phase, approximately 250 co-workers will join the IKEA family when the new store opens.

The future 26,000-square-foot store with 780 parking spaces will be located at the intersection of the National Road and Calea Aradului, featuring a unique range of home furnishing products, many inspirational room-settings, a restaurant serving Swedish specialties, a Café area and a children’s playground.

The ceremony was attended both by representatives of local authorities, Horia Bugarin (Mayor of Dumbrăvița), Alin Nica (President of Timiș County Council) and Dominic Fritz (Mayor of Timișoara), and IKEA leaders, Ekaterina Egorova (CEO IKEA South-East Europe) and Nicoletta Muscinelli (Market Manager Timișoara, IKEA Romania).

”Romania is one of our key growth markets and after the success we had with the two stores in Bucharest, the expansion was natural. We chose the Timișoara area because we want to bring what we call the IKEA inspiration and way of life closer to the western part of the country, having at hand the support of local authorities and all necessary internal resources”, stated Ekaterina Egorova, CEO IKEA South East Europe.

Nicoletta Muscinelli, Market Manager IKEA Timisoara said that IKEA will strengthen their focus on providing a unique customer experience that combines the in-store activity with seamless e-commerce.

„The new IKEA store will offer wider inspiration and a unique range of home furnishing products of great design and high quality at affordable prices for more of the many people from Timisoara and its neighbouring counties”, declared Muscinelli.

The Swedish group owns two other stores in Romania, in Bucharest. IKEA Băneasa was opened in 2007 and the one in Theodor Pallady area was inaugurated in 2019.
